Institute for CIO Excellence

What We Do

The Institute for CIO Excellence trains senior IT managers to be competitive corporate CIOs. We do this through the Certified Information Executive (CIE) course. This course teaches senior IT managers to function with a strategic business focus. We accomplish this with a variety of practical exercises and projects that are designed to effectively and quickly impart the understanding and the practical "how-to" skills needed by a successful CIO who is focused on the strategic business objectives of his/her company.

The CIO's biggest challenge:

We know your biggest challenge is getting your senior IT people to:

  • Think and act with a strategic business focus
  • Function and communicate as welcomed team players in a corporate political environment
  • Garnering the respect and credibility for IT that will come when both of the above are done well.

We make your mentoring job systematic and easy:

The solution to your biggest challenge is to send your senior people (and yourself) through the CIE course. All student projects require them to present their work to the CIO and get CIO feedback. This is an ideal way for you to mentor your senior people through the critical lessons that will make them more effective contributors on your senior team.

The CIE course:

  • The CIE course is a 27-Week Program (four Friday & Saturday weekends plus about 5 hours of outside class preparation and project time per week)
  • Results in the CIE certification (after exam)
  • Brings many valuable tangible fruits for your company through IT, even during the program.
    • Student projects are designed to provide immediate practical benefits to the company.
    • This way, the training investment bears immediate returns.
Who should come?
  • IT Directors who wish to prepare themselves to become CIO’s (or CIO’s who wish to become better CIO’s)
  • Senior IT professionals who wish to be a more effective team player in helping the CIO improve the IT operation in your company
  • IT managers who wish to get a solid start on a Masters degree in Informatics from USC Upstate
The CIE Distinctives:
